Winter Solstice 2022

A series of 12 hourly paintings depicted the Winter Solstice at Roseberry Topping, North Yorkshire Moors. The first was painted at 6am when 2 walkers were ascending Roseberry Topping prior to sunrise, picked out by their headtorches traversing the incline at as dawn broke. A painting every hour recorded the changes in colour and light across the landscape. Painted from the pub car park at The King's Head in Newton Under Roseberry in temperatures below freezing, recording the Winter Solstice became partly an endurance challenge as well as an exercise in durational art.
